Quick question? What are you waiting for?! The Secret Admirer is the perfect follow up to Wyer's previous release in this DI Natalie Ward series, The Blossom Twins! Carol Wyer has yet to disappoint! This may only be my second read by Wyer, but I now have every intention of starting from the beginning and experiencing Natalie's journey right from the start! (I may have just clicked *buy now* on the physical copies of both of her series, just saying!)

This sixth installment wastes no time in following thru with Natalie's post-tragedy fallout from book five. I don't know how she does it; without giving away any spoilers, I don't think I could ever return to any version of "normalcy" after enduring everything that this momma, wife, and detective has had to through. My heart continued to break for Natalie with every page; so many parts of this case succeeded in bringing all the emotions from book five flooding back again. It's quite clear that the struggle is real as we are made to bear witness to Natalie, discovering just how hard she would have to fight to remain professional amidst all of her unrelenting personal devastations.

I'm interested in finding out just what will happen with book seven, Somebody's Daughter. While this case is closed, following the many twists and turns Wyer is known for when throwing her readers through a crime fiction loop, everything else is uncertain. How will Natalie's personal relationships develop? Will David and Josh ever be able to heal? I have high hopes for Natalie and Mike, but mostly I really hope that Sasha somehow makes an appearance in a later book; she and Natalie could be beneficial to one another.

Fans of the DI Natalie Ward series need to add this to their collection. I even enjoyed listening to parts of this on Audible, Diana Croft has just the right voice to bring this story alive! Quick note, while this sixth installment *could* be read as a standalone, I recommend at least having read book five to fully comprehend Natalie's headspace this time around. For anyone who has not yet started this series, I would highly recommend that you do so as it comes in all formats (ebook, physical, and audio) and is, in my opinion, one that you shouldn't miss!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and the author Carol Wyer for providing me with a complimentary copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.

Book Blurb:
'I tried to talk to you today but you snubbed me and walked away. It wasn't wise to give me the brush-off, Gemma. I can be a truly good friend, but I also make the perfect enemy.'

Sasha's eighteen-year-old daughter Gemma was all she had in the world. Sasha fell pregnant with Gemma when she was still at school, and the two are as close as sisters. So when Gemma's burned and broken body is found, Sasha's world ends. What kind of person would want her beautiful daughter dead?

Leading the case is Detective Natalie Ward, scarred by her own recent tragedy. When she finds a note in Gemma's diary from a 'secret admirer,' she moves quickly, determined to un-mask them. But interviews with Gemma's devastated ex-boyfriend, and her charismatic teacher, who has been seen embracing his student far away from the classroom, don't give Natalie the answers she'd hoped for...
And then the case takes a devastating, personal twist. CCTV footage reveals Natalie's estranged husband David followed Gemma home every evening the week before she died.

Natalie is forced to put personal feelings aside and follow procedure, even though she can't believe David could be guilty. But when Gemma's housemate is found murdered, Natalie thinks the killer could still be at large. Is she right to trust her instincts about David, and can she discover the truth before another precious life is taken?

Grippingly fast and nail-bitingly tense, The Secret Admirer will have you flying through the pages long into the night. Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Rachel Abbott, and Karin Slaughter.
