The Wife - by Shalini Boland

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Shalini Boland has completely blown my mind with "The Wife"! Talk about a fast-paced thriller with an ending that you won't see coming! I was sure that I'd figured it all out a few times, but I couldn't have been further from the truth. I never once suspected the events would unfold as they did. The secrets and lies, drama, and misdirects were perfectly executed in the typical Shalini Boland fashion that I've come to know and love! Luckily I've still got quite a few more of hers to catch up on because I've now got a case of a severe book hangover!

Ten years ago, Zoe fainted on her wedding day; other than her inability to recall the events leading up to this episode, life continued on as planned. Marriage, a house, kids, a career, the whole shebang. Now, it's ten years later, and she is about to learn the truth! Why are her sister-in-law and husband acting super weird? I can guarantee you, it's not your typical read!
Told in the first person, with alternating timelines spread between 'then' (the wedding day) and 'now' (preparing for their tenth-anniversary party), "The Wife" takes you on a whirlwind of an adventure! Shalini has written herself up quite the set of characters, most of which you're never quite too sure about. Take the main character, Zoe, for example, she's a bit naive throughout the story, but I could still relate to her internal insecurities and struggles - her suspicious, over-thinking mind. From the husband to the in-laws, to her family and friends, each character plays a significant role; even though they aren't all likable, they make the perfect ensemble for Shalini's latest gripping thriller! By the end, I was even trying to reach through the pages to warn Zoe! I felt like she desperately needed my help; luckily, it wasn't my help she needed - as I couldn't very well offer much through my Kindle!

I would recommend this to each and every psychological thriller fan out there! Thank you to Shalini Boland, the publisher Bookouture and Netgalley, for this wonderfully twisted complimentary copy of "The Wife"! I have voluntarily and honestly reviewed this title, rating it a glowing five-stars! Talk about a top-notch psychological thriller!

Book Blurb:
Zoe fainted on her wedding day, and she never knew why. She’s always felt sure something bad happened. Ten years later, she’s going to find out what…

It was supposed to be the happiest day of her life. Zoe was sitting in her hotel room, in her perfect white dress, looking forward to the moment when she would make kind, handsome Toby her husband.

Then, there was a blank.

They said she must have fainted, overcome with emotion. But nothing felt quite right afterwards. Did something happen in that missing time?

Now, Toby and Zoe have two beautiful children and a perfect life. They’re planning their ten-year anniversary party for their family and friends. The invitations have been sent, the food ordered. They’re going back to the grand hotel where they got married.

But as the anniversary gets closer, it becomes clear not everyone is looking forward to celebrating. Zoe catches Toby lying about where he’s been. One of her best friends seems to be ignoring her. And someone is spreading stories that might stop the party from happening at all.

Zoe is increasingly sure that she doesn’t have the full story. But does she want to know the truth, if it will destroy everything?

From the million-copy bestselling author, this totally gripping psychological thriller will have you hooked from the first page to the last jaw-dropping twist. Perfect for fans of The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl and The Wife Between Us.
