damppebbles Blog Tour Review

Ladies and gentlemen, Carol Wyer has done it again! And by done it again, I, of course, mean - she has completely outdone herself! "An Eye for an Eye" starts off her new Detective Kate Young Series with a BANG! I was incredibly lucky to have received an advanced copy of this ebook; it has been extremely hard waiting until publication day to share this review as it is just - THAT GOOD!

After taking some forced time off to deal with the fallout of an earlier referenced trauma on the job, Detective Kate Young is, once again, called back in as lead DI for a VIP case. PTSD and medication aside, Kate is determined to get to the bottom of what ends up being a pretty warped string of events! Her comeback has many questioning her judgment and, in return, has her questioning a few as well. This detective is not one to be underestimated!

By the end, I could barely contain myself. Throughout the meticulous process of questioning suspects and following up on leads, I was holding on by the edge of my seat! Carol Wyer has written herself up an altogether brilliant new team! Undeniably, DI Young has a few somber memories to face, but even so, she was on her game! The momentary PTSD flashbacks served their purpose; they were insightful and well in-tune with the big picture. As for DS Morgan Meredith and DS Emma Donaldson, Wyer did a fantastic job drawing out their personalities and tying them together with Kate's. This novel's supporting cast, as a whole, is one I'm eager to return to in future installments. I'm excited at the prospect of seeing their unique character progressions and future cases.

The storyline, by its very nature, was utterly fascinating. I mean this in the best way possible, but Carol... where does your twisted mind come from? Let's just say, I googled an instrument and then described it, in great detail, to my husband, after to which I received a bewildering O-M-G face in response! Throughout the reading, I had a theory, not about solving the case itself (that took me completely by surprise), but about Kate and her internal struggles... I cried and then cried some more once it all came together. I rejoiced in those final moments, the lead up into what can only be assumed will be a knockout book two! WOW!

I would recommend this to all crime thriller fans, whether you are a long time Carol Wyer fan or reading this author's work for the first time. A genuinely smashing start to a new series!

A very special thank you to Carol Wyer, the publishers at Thomas & Mercer / Amazon Publishing UK, and NetGalley, for this chilling advanced copy of "An Eye for an Eye"! I have voluntarily and honestly reviewed this title FIVE STARS!

Book Blurb:
A killer running rings around the police. A detective spiraling out of control.

DI Kate Young is on leave. She’s the force’s best detective, but her bosses know she’s under pressure, on medication, and overcoming trauma. So after her bad judgment call leads to a narrowly averted public disaster, they’re sure all she needs is rest.

But when Staffordshire Police summons her back to work on a murder case, it’s a harder, more suspicious Kate Young who returns. With a new ruthlessness, she sets about tracking down a clinical, calculating serial killer who is torturing victims and leaving clues to taunt the police. Spurred on by her reporter husband, Young begins to suspect that the murderer might be closer than she ever imagined.

As she works to uncover the truth, Young unravels a network of secrets and lies, with even those closest to her having something to hide. But with her own competence—and her grip on reality—called into question, can she unmask the killer before they strike again?
